Introduction: Endotracheal tube suctioning is important for enhance oxygenation in the patients undergoing mechanical ventilation. There are two sorts of shallow and deep endotracheal tube suctioning. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of shallow and deep suctioning strategies on respiratory charge (RR), arterial blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) and number of suctioning in patients hospitalized within the intensive care items of Al-Zahra Hospital, Isfahan, Iran. Methods: On this randomized managed trial, seventy four patients who hospitalized in the intensive care models of Isfahan Al-Zahra Hospital have been randomly allotted to the shallow and deep suctioning groups. RR and BloodVitals SPO2 were measured immediately before, instantly after, 1 and 3 minute after each suctioning. Number of suctioning was also famous in each teams. Data have been analyzed utilizing repeated measures analysis of variance (RMANOVA), chi-square and independent t-assessments. Results: RR was significantly increased and BloodVitals SPO2 was significantly decreased after each suctioning within the each groups. However, these changes were not significant between the two teams. The numbers of suctioning was considerably higher in the shallow suctioning group than within the deep suctioning group. Conclusion: Shallow and deep suctioning had a similar impact on RR and SpO2. However, shallow suctioning prompted additional manipulation of patient’s trachea than deep suctioning method. Therefore, it seems that deep endotracheal tube suctioning methodology can be used to clean the airway with lesser manipulation of the trachea.
